Biography
Centre of Gravity. Progressiv, heavy, melodic.
Heaviness to satisfy everyone's inner mosher, melodies to swoon the less metal-inclined, the odd head-scratching-moment. That is Sweden's Centre of Gravity. Anders' classic "Umeå sound" polyrhythms form the backbone for the band's riffage. Vocalist Mads lends his lungs to the project in classic hard rock style, Arvid and Jonte bring teh shredz while David keeps things massive with his tight bass playing.
The band was formed in Uppsala, in late 2006. Anders is the sole remaining member of that lineup - a lineup that was rounded out by Jake Skimutis, Henrik Thalin and Fredrik Wigert. Not long after, the boys added vocalist Mads to their ranks. After recording the first demo and playing a spectacular live performance in Uppsala (ask anyone... it was spectacular!) Henrik and Fredrik left the band to pursue other musical ventures. On the 20th of September 2007 German basist Mirkko Stehn joined the CoG machine. On the 31st of January 2008 Uppsala local Robin Ahnlund joined Centre of Gravity to complete the lineup of CoG Mark II. Mirkko was with the band until 2008, when he moved on to greener pastures to become our official German correspondent May 2008 marked the beginning of Carl Magnus' tenure as resident bass master.
After a tumultuous 2009, with both Jake and Robin moving to various parts of the planet, and Robin's side project Safemode becoming a primary focus, CoG began 2010 with a new lineup. The addition of Jonte Rimsbo and Arvid Nydén marked the beginning of CoG Mark III. Cog IV was completed when Carl Magnus graduated to other gainful employment, and we were joined by bass-meister David Kitel.
